12 Days of Stories: Meet Ezra

December 7, 2021

“Ezra has a genetic disorder called Galloway-Mowat Syndrome. We didn’t find this out till later in Ezras life. Ezra will be 4 in May. He was 9 months old when we started our JMCC journey. Our first appointment was with the amazing Marie O’Neil. That appointment was a life-changing day for our whole family. Marie was the first person to really listen and help me get answers that nobody else could give us. From that day forward, we never felt like we were alone in this ever again. We finally had a team, a family, with JMCC. They are all just such amazing people, and have helped my family every step of the way. Julie Bailey, O.T, is amazing at everything she does with Ezra, like helping him to eat baby food again, and helping him play with his toys. Nancy Holmes, speech and language, helping Ezra to say mommy and daddy, brought us such joy to see him learn words for the first time ever. Christine Kipping helping Ezra with his special chair and new foot braces so he can stand, which is something I was beginning to think was nearly impossible with his disability. Stephanie McGuire helps Ezra with his vision and he has been making improvements everyday. Katie Harris, social worker, I don’t even know where I'd be if it wasn’t for her optimism and non-stop support. Every single time I got news, good, bad, and anything in between, she has always been there to help talk it through with me, listen to my feelings, and even help me fill out all the important papers for Ezra that I had trouble with. We are so very grateful for anything and everything this place has done for my family, and we are more than happy to call them family. I don’t know where we would be without them.” Melissa Weingust, mom

Through the support of our donors and community partners, we are able to continue to offer the best family-centred services and support to our clients and their families, like Ezra. Donate to JMCC today!
