Chair

Terry Johnson

Terry previously served on the Quality Committee since October 2021. Terry retired from Windsor Essex Children’s Aid in March 2019 following 37 years in child welfare; both in providing front line services as well as in senior leadership roles. Terry is well versed in the needs of children and families and has worked collaboratively with many community organizations. Presently Terry is a council member for ProsperUs and facilitates a Community Action Network group of neighbourhood residents discussing the needs of children 0 to 6 years of age.  Terry is also a  member of the Board of Directors for the Windsor Working with Immigrant Women. Terry has a Masters of Social Work from the University of Windsor.

Vice Chair

John Herhalt

John retired from KPMG LLP several years ago where he held several senior leadership positions and has over 45 years of experience in the areas of audit, accounting, management consulting, risk consulting, senior management and Board governance.

John continues to serve as a Board Director and provides part-time management consulting services to a few clients.  He has served as a Board Director on several not-for-profit organizations and, at this time, continues to serve as a Director on the Board of Easter Seals Ontario where he is the Past Chair.  John is a graduate of the University of Windsor (B. Comm., B.A. Economics) and is a member of the of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (FCPA, FCA).  He lives in Kingsville with his wife Anna.  Anna and John have one son and one granddaughter.

Ken Kapustiak

Ken Kapustiak has been a member of the Board of Directors since June, 2017 and had the role of Chair of the Board for 2 years, and previously served on the Finance Committee, Now retired, Ken brings many years of senior financial leadership experience in industry as well as volunteer experience to the Board. He is a graduate of York University (MBA) and the University of Windsor (B. Comm.), and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA CMA).

Rashoo Brar Chawla

Rashoo Brar Chawla brings over two decades of experience in the healthcare sector, with a strong background in system leadership, program planning, and health equity. Currently serving as Vice President of Operations at Erie Shores HealthCare, she has launched critical programs including a pediatric seasonal clinic and a new mental health initiative in partnership with CMHA-Windsor Essex. Rashoo’s previous roles include advancing mental health and addictions services across rural and Indigenous communities, as well as leading youth wellness partnerships and population health strategies.

A Certified Health Executive with a passion for integrated care, Rashoo is known for her collaborative leadership style and commitment to reducing health disparities. Her experience across hospitals, community agencies, and regional health authorities makes her a valuable contributor to the JMCC Board of Directors.

Treasurer & Chair of Finance Committee

Ann Diab

Ann Diab joined the JMCC Finance Committee in October 2021 and has served on the Board of Directors since the same year. She brings more than 19 years of experience in the banking sector and currently works as a Group Consultant with RBC Group Advantage, supporting businesses and their employees across Southwestern Ontario with retirement savings strategies and financial wellness solutions.

Ann is known for her collaborative, client-centered approach and her passion for empowering others. She works closely with a team of specialists to deliver personalized service and exclusive offerings from RBC Royal Bank. In addition to her expertise in financial services, she is a skilled leader and mentor, helping to coach high-performing teams within the industry.

Beyond her professional work, Ann is actively involved in community initiatives that support disadvantaged women and individuals with intellectual disabilities. Her dedication to volunteerism and advocacy has earned her several awards and recognitions.

Shantelle MacLean

Shantelle joined the John McGivney Children’s Centre Board of Directors in September 2024 and currently serves on both the Governance Committee and the Communications & Community Relations Committee.

With over a decade of leadership experience in the education and healthcare sectors, Shantelle brings a strong focus on operations and facility management. She currently serves as Coordinator of Operations for Facility Services at the Greater Essex County District School Board, where she is committed to enhancing organizational efficiency and creating optimal learning environments.

Shantelle holds a Diploma in Child and Youth Care from St. Clair College, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor, and a Diploma in School Board Administration from the University of Guelph.

Matthew Martinuzzi

Matthew Martinuzzi is a Registered Social Worker with over 15 years of experience in the fields of mental health, social services, and community advocacy. A proud alumnus of the John McGivney Children’s Centre, Matthew brings both professional expertise and a deeply personal connection to the organization. As a former JMCC client from 1990 to 2006, he credits the Centre’s services—ranging from physiotherapy and occupational therapy to school-based support—with helping him develop the skills and confidence to thrive.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Matthew previously served as a spokesperson for JMCC’s Capital Campaign, supporting the very building the Centre now calls home. Today, he is honoured to give back by serving on the Board of Directors and contributing to the Centre’s continued impact on children and families in our community.

Chair, Governance Committee

Jean Piccinato

Jean is a seasoned executive with a strong background in healthcare leadership, governance, and community service. She currently serves on the St. Clair College Board of Governors as Past Chair and is a member of the St. Clair College Foundation Board. Throughout her career, Jean has held senior roles overseeing operations, policy development, strategic planning, financial management, and human resources.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jean has volunteered extensively with several nonprofit organizations, contributing her expertise to finance, quality and risk, executive, and recruitment committees. Her dedication to strong governance and her commitment to community service make her a valuable asset to the John McGivney Children’s Centre Board of Directors.

Chair, Quality Committee

Sarah Picco

Sarah is the Chair of the Quality Committee and Vice Chair of the Communications & Community Relations Committee at the John McGivney Children’s Centre.

With over 18 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, Sarah has held progressive leadership roles at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH) since 2013. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master’s in Nursing Leadership from the University of Windsor, along with a certification in Gerontology from the Canadian Nurses Association.

Sarah began her nursing career in 2007 in Complex Medical Care and has since served as Clinical Practice Manager and, later, as Manager of Professional Practice and Infection Control. In these roles, she supported excellence in clinical practice across the HDGH campus. In 2020, she was appointed Director of Rehabilitation and Restorative Care, providing operational oversight of complex medical, palliative, and rehabilitation programs.

David Sundin

David has served on the John McGivney Children's Centre Board of Directors since June 2017. He has contributed his expertise through various leadership roles, including as Vice Chair of the Governance Committee, and as a member of both the Finance Committee and the Communications & Community Relations Committee. He currently continues his service on the Governance Committee.

David began his legal career at McTague Law Firm in 2011, becoming a partner in 2016. In January 2022, he was appointed County Solicitor for the County of Essex.

John-Marc Vachon

John-Marc is a digital marketing expert and graphic designer with over 16 years’ experience. He is the Director of Programs & Marketing for WEtech Alliance, a non-profit organization that helps innovation and tech-enabled entrepreneurs and businesses in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent start, grow and scale.

John-Marc has been on our Community Relations and Communications Committee since May 2020, starting as Vice-Chair, and is now Chair of this committee.

Board Member

Christen Abraham

Christen Abraham joined the John McGivney Children’s Centre Board of Directors in 2024 and currently serves on the Quality Committee and the Community Relations & Communications Committee. She is a Six Sigma Black Belt Professional and holds an MBA in Health Systems Leadership, with extensive experience in clinical coordination and healthcare system improvement.

Christen has worked with healthcare organizations of varying sizes, including the Windsor Family Health Team and the Windsor-Essex Neighbourhood Ambassadors Program. She currently serves as the Mobile Medical Clinic Coordinator for Mobile Medical Support (MMS) through Erie Shores HealthCare, where she leads initiatives to provide essential care to marginalized and high-priority populations across Southwestern Ontario.

In addition, Christen is the Co-Founder and Community Outreach Coordinator at Abraham Orthodontics. Her work is grounded in a strong commitment to health equity, and she develops and leads outreach programs that enhance access to care and promote community wellness. She is also an active health researcher, with published work examining the role of social determinants in health outcomes and the impact of community-based interventions on population health.

In addition to her professional and leadership roles, Christen is an active researcher, with published work exploring the influence of social factors on health outcomes and the effectiveness of community-based interventions in healthcare and psychology.

Board of Directors Meeting Dates
Meetings of the Board of Directors of the John McGivney Children's Centre are scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of the month at the Centre and/or virtually as necessary. 

Meetings are open to the public. We ask that you please RSVP your attendance to Julie.McPhedran@jmccentre.ca at least one week prior to the meeting.
