Chair

Terry Johnson

Terry previously served on the Quality Committee since October 2021. Terry retired from Windsor Essex Children’s Aid in March 2019 following 37 years in child welfare; both in providing front line services as well as in senior leadership roles. Terry is well versed in the needs of children and families and has worked collaboratively with many community organizations. Presently Terry is a council member for ProsperUs and facilitates a Community Action Network group of neighbourhood residents discussing the needs of children 0 to 6 years of age.  Terry is also a  member of the Board of Directors for the Windsor Working with Immigrant Women. Terry has a Masters of Social Work from the University of Windsor.

Vice Chair

John Herhalt

John Herhalt has just recently joined the Board of Directors and will serve as Vice Chair.  John retired from KPMG LLP several years ago where he held several senior leadership positions and has over 44 years of experience in the areas of audit, accounting, management consulting, risk consulting, senior management and Board governance.

John continues to serve as a Board Director and provides part-time management consulting services to a few clients.  He has served as a Board Director on several not-for-profit organizations and, at this time, continues to serve as a Director on the Board of Easter Seals Ontario where he is the Past Chair.  John is a graduate of the University of Windsor (B. Comm., B.A. Economics) and is a member of the of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (FCPA, FCA).  He lives in Kingsville with his wife Anna.  Anna and John have one son and one granddaughter.

Past Chair

Ken Kapustiak

Ken Kapustiak has been a member of the Board of Directors since June, 2017 and had the role of Chair of the Board for 2 years, and previously served on the Finance Committee, Now retired, Ken brings many years of senior financial leadership experience in industry as well as volunteer experience to the Board. He is a graduate of York University (MBA) and the University of Windsor (B. Comm.), and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA CMA).

Treasurer & Chair Finance Committee

Allan Cohen

Allan Cohen joined the Board of Directors in June 2012, is past Chair of the Community Relations and Communications Committee and now serves on the Executive Committee as Treasurer and as Chair of the Finance Committee.  Allan is CEO of Merchants Paper Company in Windsor, a distributor of Janitorial, Packaging and Food Service Supplies to local industry.  Building a great team with a keen focus on the company’s strategic direction and delivery of outstanding customer experiences has been Allan’s passion throughout his career and informs the insights that he brings to his role on our Board.  Allan is a proud husband and father to two grown children, is a supporter of numerous community organizations and is committed to finding ways to bring insight and brightness to all endeavors with which he becomes involved.

Vice Chair, Finance Committee

Ann Diab

Ann joined the Finance Committee in October 2021.  She is a passionate volunteer with several community engagements outside her workplace working with disadvantaged, under represented women serving as Board President of Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor. Ann is also a strong advocate for intellectually challenged individuals volunteering with Autism Ontario Windsor Essex Chapter for the past 7 years.

In 2020, Ann was a Top 150 Women of Inspiration Finalist – Universal Women’s Network™. Other awards include Community Volunteer of the Year 2018 & 2013 (Autism Ontario Windsor Essex Chapter) and Ontario Volunteer Service Award 2017 & 2021 with the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.

Ann is a Business Banking Relationship Manager with BMO; working closely with business owners to support start up, expansion and succession of their business. Ann is actively involved with BMO for Women initiatives within her organization to promote female entrepreneurship in her region.

Vice Chair, Community Relations & Communications Committee

Wiquar Husain

Wiquar joined the Board of Directors in 2021, and is Vice Chair of the Communications & Community Relations Committee, and also sits on the Finance and Quality Committees. A seasoned project manager with over 20 years of project management experience in healthcare, construction, consumer electronic retail and manufacturing, he is the founder and CEO of VCare Clinics Inc., a healthcare operation and management consultancy service based in Windsor, Ontario. Wiquar holds an M.A.Sc in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering from the University of Windsor, and an M.Sc in Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, India.

Chair, Quality Committee

Kevin Matte

Kevin Matte joined the Board of Directors in September 2020 and is currently Chair of the Quality Commitee and sits on the Finance Committee, and is past Chair of the Communications & Community Relations Committee and past member of the Governance Committee. He has worked as a registered nurse since 2013, working primarily with patients who suffer from mental illness. Kevin has been in hospital leadership for the last 5 years and is Integrated Manager at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and a Masters in Nursing (MN) degree from the University of Windsor.

Vice-Chair, Quality Committee

Sarah Picco

Sarah Picco is a member of our Communications & Community Relations Commitee, and is Vice-Chair of our Quality Committee.

She has over 17 years of experience as a Registered Nurse and has worked in Management at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare since 2013. In addition to her BScN (University of Windsor), Sarah obtained her Master’s in Nursing Leadership from the University of Windsor. She also has a certification in Gerontology through the Canadian Nurses Association. She began her career in 2007 as a RN on Complex Medical Care and since then has served as Clinical Practice Manager and since 2013, as the Manager of Professional Practice and Infection Control.  In these roles she has overseen the clinical practice environment for our staff across the campus, ensuring best practices are demonstrated and that exceptional care is provided to our patients.  In 2020 Sarah took on the role of Director Rehabilitation and Restorative Care.  This role involves providing operational oversight to all of HDGH’s complex medical, palliative and rehabilitation programs. Sarah lives with husband John and her son Cooper in LaSalle Ontario.

Chair, Governance Committee

Kathleen Roberts

Kathleen Roberts has been a member of the Board of Directors since April, 2017. Kathleen is past member of the Finance Committee and the Community Relations & Communications Committee, and is currently Chair of the Governance Committee. Kathleen is In-House Legal Counsel at the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, and as such helps the organization navigate the myriad of legal issues that face a large infrastructure project, particularly one that crosses an international border. This includes assessing and managing risk, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in two countries and assisting with strategic decision-making.

Vice-Chair, Governance Committee

David Sundin

David Sundin has been a member of the Board of Directors since June 2017 and is currently Vice Chair of the Governance Committee, and also serves on the Finance Committee. David is a former member of the Communications & Community Relations Committee.  David practiced at McTague Law Firm starting in 2011 and became a partner in 2016, and in January 2022 joined the County of Essex as County Solicitor.

John-Marc Vachon

John-Marc is a digital marketing expert and graphic designer with over 15 years’ experience. He is the Director of Programs & Marketing for WEtech Alliance, a non-profit organization that helps innovation and tech-enabled entrepreneurs and businesses in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent start, grow and scale.

John-Marc has been on our Community Relations and Communications Committee since May 2020, starting as Vice-Chair, and is now Chair of this committee.

Board Member

Shantelle MacLean

Shantelle MacLean joined the Board of Directors in September 2024 and currently sits on the CRC and the Governance Committees.  She is a leader with over a decade of experience in the educational and healthcare sectors with a strong focus on operations and facility management. She currently serves as the Coordinator of Operations for Facility Services at the Greater Essex County District School Board, where she has been dedicated to enhancing organizational efficiency and ensuring optimal learning environments.  Her academic background includes a Diploma in Child and Youth Care from St. Clair College, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor, and a Diploma in School Board Administration from the University of Guelph.  (This diploma will be finished in November).

Board of Directors Meeting Dates
Meetings of the Board of Directors of the John McGivney Children's Centre are scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of the month at the Centre and/or virtually as necessary. 

Meetings are open to the public. We ask that you please RSVP your attendance to Julie.McPhedran@jmccentre.ca at least one week prior to the meeting.
