Friends of the Centre

The John McGivney Children's Centre (JMCC) Friends of the Centre award was first introduced in June 2005 by the Board of Directors to recognize outstanding contributions by individuals and organizations that support the work of JMCC and positively impact the quality of life for children and youth with special needs and their families. After being retired for several years, the award was proudly resurrected in 2025 and is once again presented at the Annual General Meeting to honour exceptional community support and partnership.

PLEASE SELECT A YEAR:

Allan Cohen

2025

Allan joined the John McGivney Children’s Centre Board of Directors in June 2012 and retired in June 2025, marking 13 years of exceptional service and leadership. During his tenure, he held several key roles, including Chair of the Community Relations and Communications Committee, Treasurer on the Executive Committee, and Chair of the Finance Committee. Beyond these titles, Allan was a generous and unwavering supporter of JMCC, contributing not only financially but with his time, energy, and heartfelt commitment. He played a pivotal role in the recruitment and onboarding of our new CEO, helping to ensure a strong leadership transition, and was instrumental in introducing Anita Imperioli and In Honour of the Ones We Love to JMCC—an action that led to the creation of Play McGivney, our fully accessible, barrier-free playground. Allan was known for staying closely connected to our staff, families, and children, always showing up and reminding us why our mission matters. His legacy of compassion and community spirit will continue to inspire us for years to come.
