12 Days of Stories: Meet Dash

December 10, 2021

“The incredible staff at JMCC have become like family to us. I truly owe Dash’s therapists my life because I don’t know where he would be without them. Dash became involved with John McGivney right after his first birthday. He has HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy), Cerebral Palsy, and global developmental delay. He is 6 years old now and thriving. Dash is involved in PT, OT, Speech and Augmentative Communication. Linda and Jodi noticed at a very early age that Dash could do a lot with his legs and feet. He’s been using a walker since he was 1 and a half years old. Now, you’ll catch him using it to spin around in circles, kick a ball, and chase after you just to run over your feet. Thanks to Jodi, he’s been able to manipulate his feet and toes to use them as hands. Once COVID hit, we had to say goodbye to his therapists that became family and hello to new one’s that are just as caring. Mel and Bonnie continue to push Dash to his full potential, regardless of how silly he can be. They make weekly therapy fun for him. Toni and Mary Pat, thank you for giving my son a voice. Dash has been involved with them since he was 2.5/3 years old. This past June, he received his very own communication device that he manipulates with his toes. They have made this whole process extremely easy for us and always answer any questions I have. The amount of kindness and love that comes from all of Dash’s therapists has truly made him enjoy going to therapy. Dash is a very smart, happy and determined little boy. I know that as long as he has all of you in his corner, advocating for him and helping him thrive, he has the brightest future!”  - Mackenzie, mom
