Friends of the Centre

The John McGivney Children's Centre (JMCC) Friends of the Centre award was first introduced in June 2005 by the Board of Directors to recognize outstanding contributions by individuals and organizations that support the work of JMCC and positively impact the quality of life for children and youth with special needs and their families. After being retired for several years, the award was proudly resurrected in 2025 and is once again presented at the Annual General Meeting to honour exceptional community support and partnership.

Lowe's Windsor

2012

John Cowling, Project Lead, Lowe’s Windsor accepted the 2012 Friends of the Centre award.
Once a year Lowe’s chooses one community based project to create; offering the materials, labour and time as a donation to the project and the agency that is receiving it. This year we were extremely fortunate to be the recipients of this program they refer to as their Heroes Program. John and his team worked very closely with our design team of teachers, occupational and physiotherapists and facility experts to create a unique, one-of-a-kind sandbox design that would best suit the needs of our population of children. John’s attention to detail created a structure that looks like it has been in our courtyard forever.

We would like to thank Lowe’s who are truly a “Friend of the Centre” for creating a venue that allows us to provide the experience of sand play to every child; which is a key element for children’s play and development, while encouraging and allowing for interaction for the children as they explore and build in the sand.
