The John McGivney Children's Centre (JMCC) Friends of the Centre award was first introduced in June 2005 by the Board of Directors to recognize outstanding contributions by individuals and organizations that support the work of JMCC and positively impact the quality of life for children and youth with special needs and their families. After being retired for several years, the award was proudly resurrected in 2025 and is once again presented at the Annual General Meeting to honour exceptional community support and partnership.
PLEASE SELECT A YEAR:Mr. Lex McCrindel accepted the award on behalf of Rotary Club of Windsor (1918).
For over forty years the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) has been actively involved with our Centre. In November of 1965 the Club commenced planning under the leadership of Rotarian Mr. John McGivney for a new facility providing integrated services for children with disabilities. The Children’s Rehabilitation Centre of Essex County opened its doors on June 26th, 1978.
The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) has actively supported our programs, services and equipment needs over the years to ensure that no child goes without service. Again, in 2007 they have come through at a pivotal time of need as the Centre now embarks on a long awaiting building expansion. We must raise $6 million locally to augment the $8 million provided by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services for our expanded facility. The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) has committed to be our lead donor with a generous pledge of $1 million to our capital fundraising campaign.
Dr. Roy Diklich, Windsor Spitfire Team Doctor accepted the award on behalf of the Essential Services Hockey League and Mr. Rob Gagnon, Game Day and Media Coordinator for the Windsor Spitfire Hockey Club, accepted the award on behalf of the Windsor Spitfires. These two organizations committed their support to the Centre in 2005 by organizing and taking part in a 3 on 3 Hockey Tournament with proceeds going to the Centre. To date, they have raised over $18,000 for programs and services at the Centre!
Mr. Karl Tanner and Ms. Susan St. Louis accepted the Friends of the Centre award on behalf of Dillon Consulting. Dillon Consulting was honoured for the contributions of Susan and Karl who provided countless hours of support and assistance in support of our capital project. We greatly appreciate their guidance through the process and their dedication to the Centre and the children and families we serve.
