As data related to #COVID19 continues to emerge, data on the impact of the virus and pandemic related to children is lacking. We don't yet know about COVID-19's impacts on children with medical complexity/fragility. We do know that, as a result of COVID19, physical distancing, the closure of school programs and ambulatory clinics, and changes to in-home or respite support during the pandemic are leaving some families exhausted, filled with uncertainty, and with many unanswered questions. Virtual care is being implemented in some areas and clinics are reaching out to families to remain connected. This session provides an opportunity to learn from the activities, resources, and supports offered through different Complex Care Programs and Services  in Canada and to share what your program is doing for/with these children, their families, and your staff during the pandemic. Our speakers will try to tackle some of the following questions:

  • What are the limitations to services?
  • What resources or supports do families need to have in place, and how can clinicians provide them
  • What tools and resources are you looking for or able to share?
  • How can virtual care support patients/families and clinicians?”
Speakers:
  • Carolyn Chowne, RN, MScN, Nurse Clinician, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children
  • Dr. Reshma Amin, Staff Respirologist, The Hospital for Sick Children; Associate Scientist, Child Health Evaluative Sciences, SickKids Research Institute; Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, University of Toronto
  • Audrey Lim, MD, FRCPC, MSc, Pediatrician, Medical Lead of the Complex Care program, McMaster Children’s Hospital; Associate Professor, McMaster University.
