She did it! Breanna wins gold at Special Olympics World Games

March 25, 2025

Breanna Olympic Gold

Breanna Williams, a 16-year-old figure skater from Windsor-Essex, has made history, winning gold at the Special Olympics World Winter Games held March 15-18 in Turin, Italy. Breanna’s outstanding performance has cemented her place among the world’s best Special Olympics athletes.

Breanna is the only athlete from Windsor-Essex to qualify for the Canadian Special Olympics Team. Her journey to the world stage began at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary in February 2024, where she delivered an exceptional performance, winning gold in her solo figure skating event. This victory earned her a spot on Team Canada, leading to her triumphant gold-medal finish in Turin.

This marks Breanna’s first time competing at the National and International levels—an extraordinary milestone that reflects years of dedication and training. She has been skating since the age of four and is a long-time client of the John McGivney Children’s Centre (JMCC), which provides specialized rehabilitation and support services to children and youth in Windsor-Essex.

Breanna’s gold medal win is a testament to her hard work, perseverance, and passion for figure skating. She has not only brought pride to Windsor-Essex but also inspired athletes across Canada with her incredible achievement.
