Land Acknowledgement
While it is a well-travelled land, we would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the ancestral territory of the Three Fires Confederacy-the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi peoples. Windsor and Essex County are part of the ancestral and contemporary homelands of many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, and fall within the lands governed by the McKee Treaty of 1790.
We are dedicated to honouring Indigenous history and culture, and to deepening our understanding of the rich traditional knowledge, teachings, and ways of knowing that these peoples have carried across generations. We remain committed to moving forward respectfully alongside all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
At JMCC, where we support and celebrate the unique abilities of every child, we are grateful to live and work on these lands. We recognize that there is more work to do, and we commit to learning from the past, engaging in meaningful reconciliation, and supporting Indigenous sovereignty and resurgence.
