Microboards Ontario: Empowering Families and Building Futures

December 9, 2024

Five young adults outdoors with hands joined, text about Microboard support groups for disabilities.

You worry about your children’s future, even more so with a child with special needs.  Having a Microboard gives parents some relief that their child’s well being will be taken care of, with the decisions of the Microboard, which is made up of family and friends. A Microboard has one purpose: to support a person with a disability with living their best life, by assisting them in making decisions, and empowering them to express their goals for their life.

Microboard workshops are always free, usually on Zoom and always leave time for your questions. These engaging and informative sessions help give you a solid foundation in your Microboard journey.

Family Connection Night: Making The Ask
Always one of their most popular workshops, Family Connection Nights allow you to hear directly from families on topics that mean the most to you. Asking a friend, family member or someone important in your loved one’s life to join their Microboard can be intimidating. Hear from families who’ve done it – how they asked, who they asked and how it went – along with an experienced Facilitator who can also provide tips and strategies for asking. January 8, 2025, 6:30 – 8:00pm  Free with registration: bit.ly/4hfL7oZ

Building Relationships
Watch for details on this workshop, co-hosted by Ontario Caregiver Association’s Katie Muirhead and Microboards Ontario Board Director Alice Mainland about how to build relationships that last. You’d be surprised where you can find them. January 22, 2025, 6:30 – 8:00pm.  Please click here for more information.
