Children, staff and board members from the John McGivney Children’s Centre (JMCC) had hundreds of thousands of reasons to smile as they headed home to enjoy their Easter long weekend.

Local philanthropist, Al Quesnel, visited JMCC on Thursday, April 18 to make what the Centre believed to be a $300,000 donation. Then, while at the podium, he surprised everyone by announcing a $500,000 donation in support of the Centre’s work enriching the lives of children and youth with special needs by helping them reach their full potential.

“I share with so many others the highest respect for the tremendous impact that Mr. Al Quesnel has made across our community. His generosity has positively impacted the lives of many,” says Elaine Whitmore, CEO, JMCC. “Our Centre, like all others across the province, relies upon the generosity of our community and its citizens to expand the limited impact that provincial funding makes possible. Today's gift cannot come at a more important time as we face reduced government funding while demand for our services continues to grow. I wish to personally thank Mr. Quesnel for selecting JMCC as the recipient of this very generous donation. Its impact will be felt today and in the years to come by the children and families whose lives will be forever changed.”

Mr. Quesnel is well-known in Windsor-Essex for his generosity and sense of community spirit. He is dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable among us and making the future better and brighter for children and youth. He said that he decided to donate to JMCC because of our many decades of amazing work and we are indescribably thankful for his generous gift.
