Important Update: Keeping Our Community Safe from Measles

March 7, 2025

With the recent rise in measles cases in Ontario, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) has shared important recommendations for health care organizations. To help keep everyone safe—both our staff and the families we serve—we’re making a few temporary changes to our procedures.

What’s Changing?

Starting immediately, we’ll be taking the following steps:

Screening for Measles

We will be checking in with families before their appointments to ask about:

  • Any known exposure to measles
  • Any symptoms of measles

What Happens If There’s a Possible Exposure?

If a client or family member has been exposed to measles or shows symptoms, we’ll adjust their services by:
  • Moving to virtual appointments when possible, or
  • Delaying in-person services for:
    • 21 days (if there are no symptoms), or
    • 5 days after symptoms clear (if measles is confirmed)—whichever happens first

Our team will work closely with families to ensure they know the next steps and get the support they need.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we take these precautions to protect our community.
