12 Days of Stories: Meet Huda

December 11, 2021

12 Days of Stories image

“Our daughter Huda was screened through the Newborn Screening Program and we found out that she needed more testing. We found out she had profound hearing loss around 2 months old through the Infant Hearing Program. She was referred for a cochlear implant assessment and she received cochlear implant surgery in London in August, and they were activated in September. Our wonderful Speech-Language Pathologist Agapi Varacalli has been working with Huda since then. I am very happy with the service we are getting, starting with the staff at the front door and everyone at the Centre. I feel like everyone is doing their part and she is getting better every day.  The hard part for me was the language barrier because I don’t speak English but everyone here made sure that everything was taken care of, and they work through a very nice lady Maram Kayali who is my interpreter.”Fatima Al Shaaban, Huda’s mom.

Through the support of our donors and community partners, we are able to continue to offer the best family-centred services and support to our clients and their families, like Huda. Donate to JMCC today!

Thank you for supporting JMCC this holiday season!
