You will sometimes be referred for JMCC services, but you can also request a service here: Request a Service page, and an intake worker will work with you to see which services your child is eligible for.
Most of JMCC Services are funded through the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. There are no costs to families to receive those services.
There may be expenses for specialized services or equipment needed for your child. Our team will help you to understand these charges and the options for external funding support.
JMCC offers services for children and youth up to age 19, or up to age 21 if they are still in high school. Some programs have different age limits.
It depends on your child’s needs. Some children get therapy for a short time, while others may continue for longer.
Some services may have a wait. We’ll let you know and help you find other supports if needed.
Sessions can happen at JMCC, at home, school, or in the community depending on what works best for your child.
Please do not come to the Centre and call us as soon as possible if you or your child is sick. We’ll help you reschedule and keep your child’s therapy on track.
We offer coordinated care with different therapists working together to support your child’s needs.
After a referral or request for service, our team will assess your child and recommend the right therapy—or combination of therapies—based on their needs. We’ll explain everything and include you in the planning process.
JMCC Social Workers can sometimes provide short-term, supportive counselling for concerns related to your child’s diagnosis or physical disability. Please contact your JMCC therapist for more information.
For counselling or mental health supports not related to your child’s development or diagnosis, please visit https://www.hdgh.org/CYMHCoordinatedAccess.
Therapy sessions are different for each child. They may include fun games, exercises, or activities that help your child practice new skills. The therapist will explain the goals and show you how to keep practicing at home.
Yes! Our team can give ideas and strategies to help your child learn and participate in the classroom. We may also connect with teachers or school staff (with your permission) to make sure your child gets support across settings.
It depends on your child’s needs and the service type. Some children come weekly, others monthly, and some get home programs with regular check-ins. We’ll work with your schedule and goals.
Yes, caregivers are encouraged to take part in sessions at the Centre whenever possible! We want to make sure you feel confident using the strategies at home too.
