What is Speech & Language Therapy?
Speech-language therapy at JMCC helps children develop functional communication and feeding/swallowing skills.
Our team is made up of speech-language pathologists, communicative disorders assistants, and support staff who work together with families to focus on what matters most to the child and their caregivers.

How We Help
Our speech therapy services include:
-
Assessment
We check your child’s skills to see what they do well and where they need help. This includes how they understand language, how they use speech and language to express themselves, and how they eat and swallow.
-
Treatment
We use a range of techniques—including eye contact, gestures, pictures, core vocabulary, speech and sound production and motor speech skill development, fluent speech production, and augmentative and alternative communication supports—to help each child reach their full potential.
-
Recommendations
We may suggest services based on your child’s and family’s needs. These can include one-on-one or group sessions, activities to do at home, and tips to help your child keep building their skills in different places.
-
Parent Training
Providing programs and workshops to teach parents and caregivers how to support their child’s progress.
-
Consultation
Consulting with caregivers, professionals, and others who work with the child.
-
Collaboration
Liaisoning and making referrals to community partners as needed.
Therapy can happen at the Centre, at home, in schools or in the community—wherever it works best for your child.
